GOD has a way of testing His children by placing a desire on their heart and showing them that faithfulness will be required for many years before the answer will come.
Are you a patient praying believer that is blessed with God’s strength in trials? (compare 2 Corinthians 12:8-10) I venture to guess that most people are not patient in waiting for God’s answers.
The Bible clearly tells us in Isaiah 40:31, “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” One of the hardest things to do in this life is to “wait on the Lord.”
I tend to want to run ahead of Him and imagine what He means for me to do. But, don’t get ahead of the Lord, it can be disappointing and even tragic!
Have you ever prayed for something that was heavy on your heart and no answer came? In fact, you prayed for years upon years and still nothing happened, while your family was telling you that this prayer is not God’s will!
This happened to me when we lived at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for 18 years. One day, God put a burden on my heart to pray for a farm in the mountains. Of course, our family was happily living at Hilton Head where my husband’s veterinary business was doing well. He had many ministry opportunities while we were raising four of our five children.
This story is found in my book, My Precious Shepherd, which is on sale at Amazonbooks.com. The exact story is called, Be Still and Know that I Am God, pages 159-165. To be honest I prayed with my friend for five years, five days a week. She and I would pray during her lunch hour while she worked at my husband’s veterinary clinic.
Always be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Listen for His still small voice that speaks to His children (1 Kings 19:11-12). God had me wait for 5 years for an answer, but come it did!
I started thinking in the next story of why did I wait so long and was faithful to pray for that request. I had no idea why I wanted a farm in the mountains, but God kept that desire alive. For 5 years, He kept speaking to me through His Word with Scriptures that would “jump off the page” and “slap me in the face.” I wrote them down and meditated on them to consider what God was saying to me.
While meditating on why I kept praying without any answers, God showed me one summer when I was planting and cultivating our garden, that faithfulness was a virtue from Him. His only words in heaven will be when he welcomes His children home are “Well done, thy good and faithful servant…Enter into the joy of your Lord!” (Matthew 25:23; compare Matt. 24:45-47; 25:21)
The next story in my book, God, Great is Thy Faithfulness, shows why I was faithful. (pages 166-173)
What does faithfulness to the Lord bring to us? “The Lord preserves the faithful” (Psalm 31:23-24). “A faithful ambassador brings health.” (Proverbs 13:17) All the time, God is looking for “faithful men and women who will be able to teach others.” (2 Timothy 2:2)
Remember, WAIT on the LORD and be FAITHFUL to Him and His Word!
